Deception by Lee Nichols Review

Book name: Deception
Author: Lee Nichols

What it’s about: the book follows the main character Emma Vaile, who is sent to go live with her new Guardian Bennett Stern after her parents disappear on a mysterious business trip, Emma is sent to a new school called Thatcher academy, she starts having all these visions of the past as if she is seeing into someone else’s life. Emma immediately clicks in with the popular click and life seems to be going good (apart from the visions) after confiding with Bennett about the visions he reveals a secret that makes Emma realise her whole life has been a lie.

My expectations:  when I first saw this book I was really interested in it so I read the back description and basically fell in love with it and had to buy it so that I should buy it. Once I bought it my excitement grew and I couldn’t wait until it arrived, as soon as it arrived I started to read it.

Where my expectations met: No, unfortunately my expectations were not met, I wasn't completely gutted but my love for the book was gone

My reasons for this: When I first started reading this book it had grabbed my attention I couldn't stop reading it unfortunately after the first few chapters it failed to hold it and I soon became bored as I found the plot took ages to move along especially in parts it didn't need to and then in other parts where it should have more detailed it didn't another reason I didn't like this book was because in parts it tried way too hard in my opinion to make the reader wonder and cause suspense this was when the “incident” was brought up, for example the main character would keep saying things throughout the book like “before the incident” or “ever since the incident” and I found that, instead of making me wonder what the incident was it just annoyed me. In saying that the book did have some good points like the characters and the character development, Emma the main character was my favorite I absolutely loved her she was so funny and relatable and all her come backs where very witty and unlike most books of this genre she wasn't yappy which is such a good change!. My second favorite character would probably be Martha as is like the strict grandmother that keeps you intact but at the same time is funny and sweet and always makes sure your warm and your stomach is full.

What I rated this book: I rated this book 3 stars out of five as I did like some parts in the book but at the same time I was disappointed and thought it would have been better.

Would I read the rest of the series and recommend it: Yes I would read the rest of the series as I hate starting a series and not ending it. I have also heard that the next two books are brilliant so I have to find out for myself. As for recommending it I am not too sure if I would unless I was at least 90% this was their cup of tea.

Thanks for reading my review please comment if you have read this book and tell me your opinions, my next review should be up next week and it will be of Siren by Tricia Rayburn :)
